Transforming lives in Ethiopia

Health and Welfare

Limited access to health and social services means many people in Ethiopia are in need of support

With no other assistance and unable to continue working, many older people in Ethiopia have no option but to beg to survive. People living in poverty who are diagnosed with a terminal illness often do not have access to treatment or end-of-life care. For people living in very rural areas, a lack of awareness of prevention and treatment means they are vulnerable to neglected tropical diseases.

We believe every person should be able to access the care they need.

By providing specialist healthcare, support and education, our partners are reaching the people who need it most.

APIDO work to prevent and treat podoconiosis (podo), a debilitating condition caused by barefoot exposure to irritant minerals in the soil, resulting in the painful swelling of the feet and legs. APIDO work within communities, educating people on prevention, treatment, self-care and providing custom-made shoes, so that people living with the impact of podoconiosis can manage their symptoms, continue their education, return to work, and participate in their communities once again. They also raise awareness of prevention and train healthcare professionals to help eradicate podoconiosis altogether.
