The combination of drought, ongoing conflict and soaring inflation mean communities in Afar need urgent assistance.
Drought conditions have taken a massive grip on much of the Afar region. The impact of this prolonged drought is compounded by recent political instability that has already left over a million people facing widespread hunger and malnutrition. Throughout the conflict, the destruction of infrastructure has been widespread, in turn preventing adequate drought responses.
In response to the worsening food crisis Ethiopiaid is providing additional support to our partner, the Afar Pastoralist Development Association (APDA).

How will my donation help communities in crisis?
Our partner is reaching people who cannot access aid, in places where other humanitarian agencies cannot travel to.
They are providing emergency assistance to people affected by drought and conflict.
DROUGHT RESPONSE
- Providing emergency water
- Delivering health services, malnutrition treatment and medicine
- Providing food to malnourished households
- Restoring damaged water systems
- Distributing water-purifying chemicals, soap and water containers
- Providing veterinary treatment and animal feed for remaining livestock
- Restocking livestock for households who have lost their herds entirely
CONFLICT RESPONSE
- Emergency medical clinics in displacement camps
- Shelter, sleeping mats and cooking pots
- Access to clean water, sanitation and emergency food supplies
- Delivering vital maternal healthcare to displaced people
- Mobile schools for displaced children
- Safe houses for women under threat of political violence and rape as a weapon of war
