EMERGENCY: CHOLERA OUTBREAK
DESTROYS FAMILIES
Malnutrition, water shortages and now disease
Last month, late on a Friday afternoon, I received an urgent email from Valerie Browning, co-founder and programme director of the Afar Pastoralist Development Association (APDA).
I knew her email did not bode well when I saw the subject line: Terrible cholera crisis.
Valerie wrote quickly and urgently to tell me that a cholera outbreak was spreading through Teeru in the Afar region.
Just the day before a woman who arrived sick off a bus had died. It was that sudden.
This is a community already facing immense challenges and they need your support.

How will my donation save lives?
Cholera is an acute diarrheal bacterial infection caused by the ingestion of food or water contaminated with the bacterium.
However, cholera can be treated easily with simple hydration solutions
if those infected are identified early on.
But we all know the key to keeping healthy starts with
clean water and a healthy diet.
Your donation today…
- €52 could pay for one healthcare worker to reach 30 people
- €156 could help feed a family of 6 for one month
- €461 could help pay for water truck of 14,000 to up to 2,800 people
With small interventions from our partners in Ethiopia, the cholera outbreak can be curbed and lives can be saved.
Thank you.
