LIVE Update: Violence in Tigray, northern Ethiopia

Reading time: 2 min

Read our CEO’s latest update regarding the conflict happening in Tigray, northern Ethiopia:

While it’s difficult to get news from Tigray at the moment, I’ve been in close contact with our partner, APDA, who operate in the neighbouring region of Afar.

Thousands of Tigrayan people are fleeing the violence in their home region. While the majority are crossing international borders into Sudan, APDA report that many are also escaping to Afar where APDA’s team are mustering supplies of food, medical aid and temporary shelter.

“There are already casualties being treated in Afar region. But the north of Afar [where some people are entering from] is cut off from food, supplies and contact. Life is not easy. Trying to see a way around it. Not the best news, but we’re doing what we can as quickly as we can.”–

Valerie Browning, co-founder of APDA in Afar

Thanks to all who have called or emailed to share a kind thought or let me know news they’d heard.

I’d like to take this moment to assure you that your donations for our partners in Ethiopia have not been affected by the situation in Tigray, but we are not currently sending funding to projects in this region until the situation is resolved.

Our current project partners who are active in other regions of Ethiopia report that the work you support is able to continue as planned.

I will update you with more news as I receive it.
