Current Situation in Tigray, Ethiopia

Reading time: 1 min

We are saddened and deeply concerned by the unfolding situation in Ethiopia following recent reports of violent clashes between the Ethiopian army and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front in the Tigray region.

The government has now imposed a six-month state of emergency with access to telecommunications and the Internet restricted across the region.

Our partner in Tigray has temporarily paused their programme and we are also closely monitoring the situation.  Our partners elsewhere in Ethiopia report that the majority of their programmes are continuing as planned, as long as it is safe for beneficiaries and staff.

We hope that there will be a swift and peaceful resolution.  Our thoughts are with all of our partners and the people of Ethiopia.
